Goldsmiths North 2022

  • The Cutlers' Hall 7-15 Church Street Sheffield, England, S1 1HG United Kingdom (map)

I am looking forward to exhibiting at Goldsmiths North 2022 for the second time. In 2019, I was the winning exhibitor of the North Star competition with my coveted ‘Honesty seedpod’ neckpiece. I will be showcasing new botanical sculptures and jewellery in precious metals.

Josephine's precious jewellery and delicate silver sculptures aim to capture the essence of ephemeral botanical specimens, exploring notions of fragility and strength and the beauty and impermanence throughout the seasons. Her work is inspired by familiar and nostalgic wildflowers and foliage, grasses and seedpods from the field, woodland and wayside. Her pieces are crafted by hand from metal sheet and wire, with tiny cast elements from nature. She has a fascination with 18th century botanical illustrations and an appreciation of Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, where beautiful materials are used artfully to create something even more beautiful, both of these interests influence her making and curation.

Her Florilegium collection comprises of intricate, repeating, sometimes articulated elements with a soft lustrous finish, balanced with a simple elegance and defined structure. Each piece depicts the fleeting beauty of nature captured in precious metal, making the impermanent become permanent as a long lasting collectible piece.
